TOWNSVILLE’S coffee shops have had to quickly change how they do business to ensure they remain open amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Despite only being able to do takeaways, Little Pegs Cafe in Hermit Park is selling as many coffees as before the crisis.

Cafe owner Bec Maisey said digital platforms had helped steady the ship, launching an online store while working on a pre-ordering app.

“It’s a challenging time for hospitality, you either adapt and change or fail,” she said.

People craving the cafe’s cookies or drinks can now buy cookie dough, coffee beans and other goods online at littlepegs.com.au.

Meanwhile, another Townsville cafe is making the most of its location by changing the way it operates.

Hoi Polloi Cafe owner Conor Doyle urged people to stay in their car and order from Denham Lane.

“We’ve moved everything to takeaway. We’ve also done a bunch of pre-made meals,” he said.

Mr Doyle said he would do everything in his power to keep the cafe, which opened five years ago, operating.
