Townsville Airport boss Kevin Gill is set to step down from his position.

After more than a decade as chief operating officer, Mr Gill is set to step down at the end of the month after careful consideration.

“It has been a privilege to lead Townsville Airport for the past 12 years. I am immensely proud of what the airport team has achieved during this time. It is a fantastic organisation with a dedicated team of professional staff,” he said.

“Choosing the right time to step down has not been easy, however the airport is in good hands and well placed to meet the current challenges. With passenger numbers already back to 40 per cent of pre-COVID levels of activity, it is recovering more quickly than many other airports.”

Brendan Cook, who currently looks after aviation operations at the airport and is a Townsville resident, will step up to oversee airport activities as local manager.

“His experience will be invaluable as Townsville Airport reconnects with domestic markets following the devastating impacts of COVID-19 and associated travel restrictions. Most importantly, Brendan is a Townsville local and understands the needs of the community,” Queensland Airports Limited CEO Chris Mills said.

Mr Mills thanked Mr Gill for his service.

“Whether it has been the pursuit of new destinations, delivery of long-term projects or building relationships with the community, Kevin has always put the airport and the Townsville community first,” he said.

“Kevin has been a key part of the team and will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best in whatever he chooses to do.”
