A Townsville couple say they won’t know themselves when they never have to worry about another mortgage repayment or bill again after winning the lottery.

The Thuringowa couple, who wish to remain anonymous, held one of the 12 division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw. Each entry won a division one prize of $410,606.71.

This morning, an official from the Lott made contact with the pair, who had no idea they were holding a winning ticket.

“I’m shaking. I’m really shaking. I feel faint. Oh god. I don’t know what to do,” the wife cried with happiness.

“I don’t know if I should cry or laugh or faint.

“We’ve been playing for so long and this is just amazing. We’ve dreamt of this for years and years – about what this we would be like to win the lottery.”

The couple explained they would be paying off their mortgage and plan a holiday for when they are allowed to travel again after coronavirus restrictions are lifted.

“We can fix the house up. Maybe we will even be able to get a new car, that would be very exciting,” the woman said.

The couple bought their ticket at thelott.com.

It appears North Queensland is a lucky place to be living, with another of Saturday’s winners living in Atherton.

The grandmother plans on renovating her home and helping her grandchildren with her new fortune.

A retired Garbutt couple also won a massive $8.9 million in the Powerball on May 9 while days later a North Shore man won $327,064.35 in a Super 66 draw.
