A failed car theft resulted in a SUV falling metres down a steep driveway and crashing into a house in Townsville this morning.

Police and firefighters were called to the incident about 2.15am.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed thieves attempted to steal a Honda CR-V from a Walker St address.

“(The vehicle) has come off the edge of the property, gone down a few metres,” he said.

The vehicle ended up in a property on Blackwood St.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the “vehicle has entered the hallway of the house” before the thieves fled the scene.

Police are investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
