TOWNSVILLE’S high rollers will have a new home with a major redevelopment at The Ville Resort-Casino.

The casino has opened the doors to its new $10m VIP gaming room, conferencing and entertainment venue.

The casino’s Grant Ballrooms and adjacent function rooms have been transformed into a glamorous private gaming area and upgraded conferencing space with the city’s only teleconferencing capability.

The new entertainment venue also features state-of-the-art staging and audiovisual equipment.

The Ville showed off the new renovations on Tuesday night with an opening party hosted by high tier casino members.

Morris Group owner Chris Morris said the new gaming room would offer a high end gaming experience, never before seen in Townsville.

“We’ve had strong demand for VIP gaming experiences from both locals and visitors,” Mr Morris said.

“The new VIP room will now put us in line with the best gaming operators in the country to ensure we can continue to service and grow that demand.

“The upgraded entertainment venue will allow us to bring even more fantastic live shows to Townsville while also offering spaces for smaller conferences on top of our existing function spaces in The Pavilion.”

The project, which took nine months to complete is a welcome addition to the $50m redevelopment of The Ville, which finished in 2018.

The new gaming room has been named The Orpheus Room and will complement the existing VIP gaming room now named the Magnetic Room, which is next to the main gaming floor.

The Ville Resort-Casino chief executive officer Michael Jones said The Orpheus Room featured luxe finishes, ocean views to Magnetic Island, and a private bar.

“We’re also unveiling the entertainment venue which replaces the Grand Ballroom and has been named The Barrier Reef Room,” Mr Jones said.

“It has a large elevated stage but it’s also a multifunctional space so it can be used for medium-sized conferences, weddings and cocktail-style events.”

Last week, The Ville also received approval to go ahead with a new hotel next to its current site.

The hotel will have 137 hotel rooms, each with their own private balcony, a central reception area, restaurant, ancillary offices and recreational facilities.

The eighth level of the new hotel will include a tapas bar, restaurant, infinity pool and an expansive deck.

The development also includes a new 150-space public carpark and a further 20 staff car parks.

It will also connect to the existing property with an undercover walkway.

The approval will allow the Morris Group to get moving on construction as soon as possible.
