A stolen car has been stopped after police deployed stingers when the vehicle was spotted on Riverway Drive in the early hours of this morning.
Just before 3am police identified the stolen blue Toyota 86 coupe travelling inbound on Riverway Drive at about 150km/h.
Inspector Glenn Doyle said the police successfully stopped the offenders.
“We were certainly on the lookout for the vehicle and it was observed last night travelling at a fast rate of speed on Riverway Drive at about 3am when police took the action that they did,” he said.
“The stingers were deployed successfully and the vehicle travelled further from the intersection of Hervey Range Road and Riverway Drive.”
Insp Doyle said two offenders fled on foot into the rear of Kirwan High School once the vehicle was stopped.
During the pursuit, one of the police officers fell into a small depression on the oval and was taken to hospital with possible serious leg injuries.
The car was stolen from Rasmussen last Wednesday and has allegedly been involved in numerous offences, including evading police and fuel drive offs at various service stations throughout the week.
Insp Doyle said the police would not stop until the two offenders were identified and charged.
“We are still trying to identify the offenders and we believe they were involved in some offences during the week which hopefully we will be able to link them to,” he said.
“We have our CIB and all of our plain clothes officers actively seeking those offenders.”
