A 14-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly threatened staff with a knife at a Townsville shopping centre. See the detail.

A teenage boy has been charged after he allegedly threatened staff with a knife at a Townsville shopping centre on Thursday.

Police say the boy tried to forcefully enter a Vincent shopping centre on Fulham Rd about 4pm.

The boy was later found by security staff inside the centre and escorted out of the premises before he produced a knife and threatened staff.

The boy was found by police on Nathan St and was taken into custody, with a knife allegedly located nearby buried in the ground.

The 14-year-old Kelso boy was charged with wilful damage, going armed so as to cause fear and possession of a knife in a public space.

He is due to face Townsville Children’s Court at a later date.
