A teenage boy has been arrested after a stolen Toyota LandCruiser crashed into a property fence.

Kirwan Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Jason Brosnan said the four-wheel-drive was stolen from a home on Ellimatta Ave, Cranbrook between 10.30pm and 1am.

He said thieves came through the back laundry door of the Cranbrook property, stole car keys and sped off.

The stolen LandCruiser crashed on Charles St, Heatley after it was seen driving at speed in the early hours of this morning.

The LandCruiser mounted the gutter, narrowly missing a power pole before crashing into a front fence. Two people were in the vehicle.

The driver, a 15-year-old boy from Mundingburra was taken into custody nearby. The passenger has not yet been located.

The driver was taken to hospital complaining of a sore leg.

Police said both the vehicle and fence of the property it crashed into suffered significant damage.

A 2019 Ford Everest stolen from Pallarenda was also seen driving at speed in Heatley this morning.

The number of car thefts in the city have plummeted.

Townsville crime rates have plummeted to the lowest recorded in years, but police don’t expect it to last as they prepare for the next influx of crime.

Shocking statistics show general crime across the Townsville District this month was about half of the historic rates recorded in February and the lowest crime rates in the last two years.

Property crime rates peaked at more than 600 unlawful entry offences in February and the highest recorded rates in about 10 years after the city was hit with a hard sweep of juvenile crime.
