Stockland Townsville Shopping Centre bargain hunters fail to dig deep in their pockets

Shoppers were out in force for the Boxing Day sales but some were a little reluctant to snap up a bargain.

SHOPPERS were out in force for the Boxing Day sales but retailers reported a few bargain hunters were reluctant to snap up a deal.

Stockland Townsville Shopping Centre food court eatery Townsville Dosa owner Sunil Prasad opened his business in August and had high expectations for his first Boxing Day.

Mr Prasad said he was run off his feet for lunch.

“The whole shopping centre was very busy and I was expecting really good business,” he said.

“We served at least 250 customers at lunch. Everyone was happy and there was a good ambience.”

Swarovski Townsville owner Mick Waters said despite healthy foot traffic through his store he felt shoppers were picking up a bargain online.

Stockland Townsville centre manager Andrew Stallan said the shopping mall had experienced healthy visitor numbers and spending in the lead-up to Christmas.

Townsville Dosa Co-owner Sunil Prasad served 250 customers for lunch on Boxing Day.

“The day was below expectations. There was a lot of people but they weren’t buying as you thought they would have,” he said.

“I think people are very savvy with their mobile phones so a lot of people take pictures so they know the prices.”

Mr Waters opened Swarovski Townsville at the beginning of November and said that for his store’s Boxing Day sale 30 per cent of the stock was on special

Major Townsville retail chains also launched bargain sales with Myer Townsville offering up to 70 per cent items for their stocktake sale.

Harvey Norman Townsville offered their customers up to 30 per cent across their range as part of their sizzling summer deals promotion.

Intersport Townsville started their Boxing Day sales early kicking off their discounts at 4pm on Christmas Day.

Boxing Day sales extend into the new year.
