St Anthony’s Catholic College Townsville: QAS called to reported snake bite

Emergency paramedics have responded to a report of a snake bite at a Deeragun Catholic school.

A red-bellied black snake. Queensland Ambulance Service said a male patient, aged 13, had been taken to Townsville University Hospital following a “reported snakebite” in Deerangun at 8.56am. The incident occurred at St Anthony’s Catholic College on Joanne Street.

Emergency paramedics have responded to a report of a snake bite at a Catholic school in Townsville.

Queensland Ambulance Service said a male patient, aged 13, had been taken to Townsville University Hospital following a “reported snakebite” in Deeragun at 8.56am on Monday.

The incident occurred at St Anthony’s Catholic College on Joanne Street.

The school confirmed that emergency services were called after a Year 8 student suffered a suspected snake bite.

“The student is in the care of emergency services and parents have been notified,” Acting Principal Nick Antoniazzi said.

“St Anthony’s Catholic College takes the safety and well-being of our students very seriously and staff followed the correct college procedures in a timely manner.”

He said no other students or staff were in danger during the incident.

Townsville Health and Hospital Service said the student was in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, an elderly woman in her early 80s has been transported to Ayr Hospital after she was hit by a vehicle on Chippendale Street at 8.47am.

A QAS spokesman said the woman suffered cuts and grazes and was listed in a stable condition.

Initial reports from the scene indicated she may have been struck by a vehicle reversing from a driveway.
