With eyes bigger than its stomach, a small green tree frog had to battle to get its fill on a fly almost as big as itself.
Katrina Stewart, of Deeragun, captured the epic bout between the baby frog and pesky insect while tending to her garden.
She said the frog “no bigger than about 3cm” pounced on the fly but the insect would not die without a fight.
“The fly was fighting back, it crawled out of (the frog’s) mouth,” Mrs Stewart said. “It was covered in slobber but he won the first round.”
Mrs Stewart said the fly made the mistake of once again wandering too close to the hungry amphibian while trying to clean off the sticky saliva.
The frog lunged at the fly but this time got a firmer grasp.
“He was just sitting with it in its mouth. The fly’s feet were going, trying to get out,” Mrs Stewart said.
The keen gardener did not get to see if the frog managed to swallow the fly but hoped it was rewarded.
“Hopefully he managed to get his feed after all the effort,” she said.
It is not the first time a green tree frog has been snapped swallowing a tricky meal.
The frog survived its ordeal and was affectionately named Fatty before being released back into the wild.
