But after hearing the Kurrimine Beach Fishing Competition on the Cassowary Coast had been cancelled this year because of COVID-19 they decided to take a trip north anyway.
“Every year we go to the Kurrimine fishing competition. We wanted to go back and support the town,” Mrs Carroll said. “The little town is struggling a lot because of COVID and the fishing comp not being on. I thought if we do this right we could get married in Kurrimine, it’s our favourite place.”
Mr Carroll said: “Both my best men were going (to Kurrimine) as well. (One) turned around and said ‘why don’t you get married there?’
“It was more of an afterthought. I turned around to Skye and said: ’Do you reckon we should do it?’ She said: ‘I’d give it a go.’” The Carrolls invited their closest family and friends to the wedding on September 23.
