Hudson Smyth is going to be young forever – well sort of anyway.
Hudson was lucky enough to be born with the title of ‘leapling’ after arriving on February 29.
The baby boy arrived at 3.53am on Saturday morning weighing 3.6kg to parents Ashlee and Chris Smyth.
Hudson will technically only celebrate his birthday every four years after being born on a leap year day.
The bundle of joy was six days late with Ms Symth saying the whole family joked about the new addition being a leapling.
“I kind of forgot it was a leap year and then it was pointed out to me and people were saying, ‘oh, you’re going to have a leap year baby’, and I was like, ‘of course I am’,” she said.
“So it came true.”
It has been decided by the family that they will celebrate Hudson’s birthday on March 1 and will make sure to have a particularly big celebration every four years.
The new mother said Hudson’s two sisters and two brothers were excited to meet their new sibling.
“They are going to be absolutely smitten when they see him,” she said.
“The girls just love babies and the boys will just dote on him and my three-year-old son is baby obsessed.”
Hudson was one of six babies born at the Townsville University Hospital on Saturday.
The chance of being born on a leap day is 1 in 1461 compared to 1 in 365 being born on any day.
