A severe storm warning has been issued for Townsville, with heavy rainfall expected.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin district.
Locations which may be affected include Ayr, Giru, Alva Beach, Woodstock and Rollingstone.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
Bureau meteorologist Alex Majchrowski said overnight Ingham was drenched by 93mm of rain while Woolshed got 47mm and nearer to the city Saunders Creek received 27mm.
“The showers should be easing over the next few days,” he said.
Mr Majchrowski said nights would still feel “pretty muggy” as moisture from earlier showers evaporates.
He said minimum temperatures would be about four degrees above the April average, ranging about 24C until next weekend.
Maximum temperatures would also be a little warmer than usual, reaching a top of 32C on Monday – two degrees above the monthly mean.
“Conditions will be returning closer to average by Thursday and Friday,” Mr Majchrowski said.
He said there was a chance of more showers at the end of next week.
