Charters Towers Regional Council has revealed long-time public servant Scott Greensill will serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer, taking over from Martin Drydale.

This is not Mr Greensill’s first stint in Charters Towers, previously working as Interim Director and Acting Chief Executive Officer during periods of leave.

Mr Greensill has worked for numerous councils in Queensland and New South Wales, with him listed as the Bauhinia Shire Council chief executive as far back as 1996.

In a statement, CTRC said his experience would be “instrumental” in providing “steady leadership” for the council while it recruited a permanent CEO.

Mayor Liz Schmidt said the council looked forward to working with Mr Greensill to provide direction during this transition period.

“With his previous experience and knowledge of our region, we are pleased to welcome him back,” Cr Schmidt said.

Outgoing CEO Mr Drysdale will be effective as on May 17, with Mr Greensill expected to start on May 6.

Mr Drydale and Mr Greensill would work closely over a two-week period to ensure a smooth and thorough handover of responsibilities.

More recently, Mr Greensill has worked in northern New South Wales with Tenterfield Shire Council and Clarence Valley Council.

In 2017, after a stint with CVC, Mr Greensill resigned suddenly.

At the time, Cr Karen Toms said of his decision to resign at the time “I believe his decision is in the best interest for the council and the Clarence Valley”.

Mr Greensill had previously been criticised by a NSW Supreme Court Judge, who said he “took steps under the [code of conduct] which he ought not to have” in relation to a case against Singleton Council.

The case surrounded a long-term road conflict between two Carrowbrook brothers and the council, in which then-deputy mayor Paul Nichols was accused of acting improperly and unethically in maintaining contact with the pair. Mr Nichols denied those allegations and was cleared of any misconduct by the judge.

He had left Singleton Council two weeks before the Supreme Court case was heard to work in Grafton, at CVC.

CTRC said it would keep the community updated about the recruitment of a permanent CEO.
