A moment out on the field in front of a roaring crowd of thousands of fans is hard to replicate, but for a group of Cowboys players, the only thing that is even more special than that is becoming a father.
After wrapping up their final home game win, the North Queensland team are now able to turn their focus to their next important event, Father’s Day.
For hooker Reece Robson it will be the first of many with his young family, after his partner Ellie Carmichael gave birth to their first daughter Hazel during pre-season earlier in the year.
“I get some highs with footy but nothing quite matches this,” he said.
“She’s been a great baby, she’s my little angel.”
Seven-month-old Hazel was born during pre-season, but has quickly grown into her fathers biggest fan, watching the footy in between naps and her swims.
“We pretty much drive around in the car trying to get her to sleep or then go swimming in the pool, she loves the water,” Robson said.
“I’d say she’ll be a big footy fan, she’s glued to it on the TV when we’re watching it.”
While Robson was unsure of their Sunday plans, he was looking forward to a relaxed day with some quality time with his family.
“We will probably go out for brekkie or something like that, something special,” he said.
“We will definitely have a couple more (children). I’d say we will just take it one by one and see how they go.
“She’s been an angel, which is good.”
