A female amputee has lost an ear after she was dragged from her wheelchair and mauled by two vicious dogs during a horrific attack on Palm Island.
A 52-year-old woman with an amputated leg was attacked by two dogs and dragged from her wheelchair a short distance from her residence on Sailor St about 11.10pm on Monday.
The two medium sized dogs bit her multiple times on the neck, face, ear and arms.
The victim lost her entire right ear in the attack and she also appeared to have broken her arm when she was pulled from her wheelchair.
She was flown to Townsville University Hospital in a stable but serious condition where she is undergoing surgery.
Police on Palm Island attended but were unable to locate the dogs responsible after the attack.
Around 4pm on Tuesday the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council confirmed that the two dogs involved had been identified and destroyed.
