Mount Isa Mayor Danielle Slade said it was fortunate the fire was contained to the older part of the centre.
“No one has been injured and there’s no damage to the new part of the facility,” Cr Slade said.
“It’s mostly in the old cafe area.
“Luckily these guys (tradies) were here, they smelt it.”
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman confirmed there was a fire in the building’s ceiling space which had been extinguished, with firefighters monitoring the scene.
Everyone inside the building safely evacuated.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
