A NORTH Queensland prison guard accused of raping a female colleague has been suspended from duty.
The woman faced Townsville Magistrates Court last week charged with sexual assault and rape after an alleged incident at a boozy after-work social event a group of employees attended.
A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman confirmed that the woman was suspended from duty after she was hit with the criminal charges.
“Queensland Corrective Service expects our officers to behave ethically and lawfully,” he said.
“These charges relate to a social setting, outside our legal remit as an employer.
“Any disciplinary matters would be considered after the criminal matters are finalised.”
The case against the woman, who is on bail, will return to court for committal mention in early February.
