A Townsville man has been arrested while in New South Wales for a series of domestic violence-related charges.

Officers from the Townsville Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit (DFV & VPU) travelled interstate to extradite the 29-year-old man who was found in Parramatta.

He has been charged with nine counts of contravening a domestic violence order offences, two counts of stalking and one count each of distributing intimate images, contravene order about device information from digital device and contravene a requirement.

He first appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court on May 29 and was remanded in custody, scheduled to reappear on July 4.

DFV and VPU Officer in Charge Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Andy Alce said holding perpetrators of domestic violence accountable was key.

“Police play a critical role in responding to domestic violence, holding offenders to account and protecting the victim-survivors, but we cannot do this alone,” he said.

“Prevention starts with all of us – families, friends, neighbours, colleagues and community leaders working together to say ‘no more’ to domestic and family violence.”
