During this time of uncertainty, Townsville newsagencies are providing a link to the world and offering a little bit of fun along the way.
NewsXpress CastleTown manager Peta Benney said newsagencies were still in demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We have been thanked numerous times for being open because a lot of places aren’t and it feels really good that we can deliver something that is still relevant,” she said. “Some people have been buying lottery tickets for multi-weeks, so they are planning ahead.”
Newsagencies have been deemed an essential service by the Government, and the World Health Organisation has declared newspapers are safe to touch.
Ms Benney said the newsagency was adhering to strict hygiene rules.
“We have designated exit and entry areas, we have put crosses where people can stand at the counter and a line where they can wait before coming to the counter,” she said.
“We are also disinfecting the counter and terminals every hour.
“We just want people to know we are here as long as we can stay.”
