New Mount Louisa walking tracks to be extended

A walking trail being built on Mount Louisa has been extended by close to half a kilometre.
A slight variation will mean the track, which was originally designed to be 1.8km long, will now be 2.25km.
Despite the variation, works are on track to be finished on time. Contractor JMAC Constructions have finished more than 1.9km of the trail leading from the corner of Bayswater Rd and Weston St.
Infrastructure Committee chairman and Deputy Mayor Mark Molachino said the construction of the trail has been going well and should be finished at the end of July.

“The Mount Louisa walking trail is under construction and the work … completed so far looks fantastic,” he said.
“Council is excited to see the work completed and the trail opened to the public as soon as possible. This project has supported up to 40 local jobs, and I’m thrilled that residents will be able to take advantage of a great trail that has been built by locals, for locals.”
The project was first announced as part of the Townsville 2020 Masterplan and designed to take traffic pressure away from Castle Hill.
The walking trail will also have two viewing platforms.
Designs were changed after almost 300 individual pieces of feedback were received, leading to the removal of mountain bike trails from stage one of the design and scrapping of a proposed luge.
