‘Nearly killed my husband’: Car thieves rattle Townsville suburbs
A brazen thief who smashed into a garage before getting away in a powerful Australian muscle car has left residents in Townsville suburbs fearing for their lives.

A KIRWAN home was targeted by a thief who smashed their way into the garage and got away with a powerful Australian muscle car.
The thief aggressively reversed the 2014 Holden VF SS Commodore through a locked garage on Fielding Way, Kirwan on Tuesday.
The partner of the woman whose car was stolen, who wished to remain anonymous, said the car was seen driving recklessly on suburban streets at high speeds.
“One of my mates saw it, he said it was on two wheels,” he said.
“Another one said it was like a Hollywood movie.”
The man said the thief had the car for more than 40 hours before ditching it on Tavern St, Kirwan on Thursday.
He said the Commodore was in a bad state when it was found after its “flogging” around Townsville streets, with every body panel damaged.
“It’s wrecked. They would have kept driving it but it had a flat tyre,” he said.
Other witnesses reported the stolen car on a number of Townsville crime Facebook pages.
“Nearly killed my husband on Bundock St,” Deborah McGuire wrote.
“It shook my car as it drove past and was super loud! Definitely doing over 100,” Sheridan Toms said.
“Just saw this car going past Domain lane swapping dangerously,” Natalie Heidimann said.
Police are still investigating the incident.
More than 10 cars were reported stolen in Townsville from Monday to Friday last week.
