A woman who a court heard had a “really bad” criminal history fronted court once again, this time for using a shopping trolley to ram the window of a probation and parole office before assaulting an officer.
Natala Colleen Brown appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court this week via video link after she had been arrested for a string of violent, drunken offences.
Police prosecutor Danny Burke said the 32-year-old attended Townsville’s probation and parole office located on Ross River Rd on February 29 and used a trolley to ram the window causing it to be replaced.
Following the window damage, the woman walked across the road to Stockland Plaza where she snapped the fingers off a mannequin and threw it at a shop-front window.
Mr Burke said the manager of the store approached the woman requesting her to leave, before she fronted the man in a “fighting stance” and attempted to punch him.
The prosecutor said the drunken woman failed to make contact with the man, before police arrived and her tirade continued.
“She told the police ‘F--k you’, approached the police car and kicked the front bumper,” Mr Burke said.
“She used her thong to strike the bonnet, and punched a constable in the chest.”
The woman’s defence lawyer said at the time of the offending her client was on “irregular medication” and was “heavily intoxicated”.
“She’s extremely remorseful, she’s actually embarrassed by it,” they said.
Magistrate Viviana Keegan highlighted the woman had 13 failure to appear charges and 16 public nuisance charges to her name, and noted the woman’s parole was suspended following her failing to appear in court on March 12.
“You have a really bad criminal history that tells me you drink lots of alcohol and when you’re drunk you get violent and commit offences,” she said.
Brown pleaded guilty to assaulting police, common assault, public nuisance, two counts of willful damage and failing to appear in accordance with undertaking.
She was sentenced to seven months’ jail with a parole eligibility date of May 20, with the 15 days spent in pre-sentence custody declared as time served.
