The Craft Collective Townsville owner Leigh Robertson has put a new twist on Mother’s Day this year with her at-home craft kits.

Since the COVID-19 shutdown Ms Robertson knew she was going to have to get crafty with her business and craft products.

Since introducing at-home craft kits a month ago, they have been an instant success with one craft kit’s release selling out overnight.

Ms Robertson said the new addition to her product list had accidentally become a Mother’s Day hit.

“Some people have bought the kits for their mums and some people have bought the kit to make their mother something for Mother’s Day,” she said. “Some people have even bought two kits to make something together on Mother’s Day … it gives mums and kids that creative time together.”

Ms Robertson has sold more than 100 kits in the past month with 15 different kits in the range.

With The Craft Collective Townsville Mother’s Day craft classes cancelled, Ms Robertson said she was thrilled to still be making tomorrow special.

“It is a great feeling knowing people are keeping active and creating and crafting during isolation and on Mother’s Day,” she said.

“I feel really grateful and it fills me with joy that I can help to bring something special to mums on Mother’s Day while in lockdown.”

The craft kits range in price from $40 to $60 with a range of activities to choose from including mosaics making, candle making, jewellery making and macramé.

Ms Robertson said she hoped the craft kits would ensure Mother’s Day this year would be remembered for all the right reasons.

“They will have something special to show at the end of the day and hopefully they will put that in their house and look back on those fond memories with their mum in the future,” she said.

The mother of three boys said she was looking forward to spending a quiet Mother’s Day with her family.
