Walkers parking near the new Mount Louisa walking tracks are being ticketed to stop people illegally parking.
New signs installed by Townsville City Council instruct people not to park on nearby nature strips off Bayswater Rd and Weston St.
Division 7 Councillor Kurt Rehbein said parking officers were giving out warnings to people ignoring the signage but will be fining those who continue to do the wrong thing.
“Our parking officers won’t be hesitating to fine those people who are ruining it for the vast majority of people,” he said.
“If the carpark happens to be full because the track is busy, we do just ask people to park a bit further away and walk to the entrance.
“We’re hoping that these new signs along both Weston Street and Bayswater Road provide some clarity about where people should be parking.”

The advice to park on streets has caused some concern however, with social media lighting up about possible dangers to pedestrians.
“Side streets are narrow and a car parked on the road creates a danger to children,” John Forsyth said.
Scott Logan said more planning was needed.
“When residents block all other options for carparks and walking access points then complain to council asking for ticket inspectors to fine people parking it was never going to end well,” he said.
“I suggest we ask the council to organise another open forum so the people complaining about the parking problem can meet the people opposing it so all can come to a happy and agreeable resolution.”
There are concerns a build of parked cars during peak hours early in the morning and later in the evening are creating dangerous blind spots for both cars and pedestrians.
