A TOWNSVILLE drug kingpin who supplied significant amounts of methamphetamine, MDMA and cannabis has boasted about hiding drugs in his anus to avoid detection by police.

Cameron James Standley, 31, ran a “sophisticated” mid-level drug enterprise conducted over an 11 week period from June 14 to August 21, 2019.

During the 11 weeks Standley instructed a number of ‘runners’ to distribute drugs throughout Townsville, Charters Towers and Ingham.

The Townsville Supreme Court heard Standley provided identical phones to his drug runners with a set of specific rules.

The rules included using Snapchat as the means of communication by taking a photo and writing text over the image.

On June 4, 2019 police intercepted Standley’s vehicle and found 2.4g of MDMA and 1g of methamphetamine, the court heard.

Prosecuting for the crown Monique Sheppard said Standley was once again intercepted by police on July 20, 2019 possessing 4.5g of MDMA, 1.4g of methamphetamine and $1675.

“At the time of his arrest the defendant in communications with another person complained about being quote, “pinched again”,” she said.

“He was on his way home to hide the drugs and within an hour he was boasting that he was not to be deterred by police stating to a customer that he would hide the drugs in an anal cavity.”

Cameron James Standley was sentenced to nine years' jail for drug trafficking.

The court heard Standley was looking to expand his drug enterprise to Emerald and helped a friend escape custody on August 16, 2019 by cutting off his handcuffs.

Police executed a warrant at Standley’s home address on August 21, 2019 where he was arrested.

A tick sheet discovered by police revealed Standley was owed $19,390 and had $33,260 of unexplained funds deposited into his bank account.

Ms Sheppard said the overall amount of drugs could not be determined due to the lack of electronic footprint but estimated the total amount of methamphetamine Standley trafficked was 1kg.

Standley pleaded guilty to a range of offences including drug trafficking.

Defence barrister Michael Hibble said his client’s life “feel apart in a spectacular way” after he separated from his wife.

“He was very focused in his drug dealing, I know it’s a double edge sword but he was using methamphetamine in effect to self-medicate in the sense of his ADHD,” he said.

“He was using that business opportunity and he was trying to support what was prior to him engaging in drug use and very comfortable lifestyle as a fly in fly out welder.”

Justice David North condemned Standley’s actions describing his crimes as “audacious”, “cynical” and “highly criminal”.

“You quite willingly and in a determined and sophisticated way set about establishing and maintaining a significant trafficking enterprise,” he said.

“It was not a small trafficking enterprise, it was a significant operation that was sophisticated and well targeted to the market.”

Declaring the 336 days spent in pre-sentence custody as time already served, Justice North sentenced Standley to nine years’ jail.

He will be eligible for parole on August 21,2023.
