An elderly man has been flown to a Townsville hospital after a horror car and bus crash.

The driver of the car, a male in his 70s, was transported to Bowen Hospital in a stable condition.

An elderly man has been flown to a Townsville hospital after a horror car and bus crash.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a crash on the Bruce Highway and Abott Point Rd in Bowen about 11.30 this morning.

The man in his 70s was transferred to Townsville after he was initially taken to Bowen Hospital with suspected spinal injuries, the Daily Mercury reported.

The man was entrapped in his vehicle.

“We did transport a male patient in his 70s with chest, abdominal and leg injuries,” a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said.

“He was transported in a stable condition via road ambulance to Bowen Hospital.”

None of the 20 occupants aboard the bus needed medical treatment.
