Police slammed a learner driver who allegedly had been drinking before crashing into a house in the middle of the night.

Kirwan Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Jason Brosnan said the 18-year-old girl was lucky she did not kill anyone in the crash.

Initial reports suggest the teenager was travelling south along Pinnacle Drive about 2am Sunday when she lost control.

“The female driver has allegedly lost control and just lost concept of where she was, and the next thing she knows, she stated, she was in the front yard of the residence,” he said.

The red Holden Commodore skidded about 100m and crashed through a fence before coming to rest in the front yard of a home on Gollogly Lane.

The girl blew a positive roadside breath test and was taken to Kirwan Police Station where she provided a breath alcohol concentration of 0.079 per cent.

“An inexperienced driver, who is still learning to drive at two in the morning, should have no alcohol in their system,” Sen-Sgt Brosnan said.

“Speed is a factor in the accident, you don’t lose control and end up in someone’s front yard without exceeding the speed limit.”

He said the incident could have been fatal in other circumstances.

“Two in the morning, flip it around, make it two in the afternoon with kids walking home from school it could have been a lot different consequence, a life could have been lost,” he said. “For what? The case of two or three drinks. It’s not worth it.”
