Two sisters have taken their passion for yummy vegan food and turned it into Townsville’s only take-out of its kind.

After a whirlwind time turning an idea into reality, KD’s Vegan Takeaway has opened its doors on Meenan Street, Garbutt.

Rachel Freebairn said the shop was prompted by a lack of choice for vegans in Townsville.

“There was next to no vegan food in Townsville, and Olivia is a chef and was out of work because of COVID, so we thought why don’t we just do this shop and turn it into something special?” she said.

“We’re vegan, so we know what it feels like to not be able to get food, or have to go to one place and order the same meal every time.”

With a cabinet stocked with fresh wraps and homemade desserts, along with a takeaway menu to order from, Olivia said she hoped vegans and non-vegans alike would find something appetising.
