A woman who was found guilty by jury of murdering her friend in a Townsville unit and leaving her to die in a driveway has lashed out in anger after learning her fate.

Chante Lee White attempted to argue that she “blacked out” when she stabbed Kayla Golding in the neck, and didn’t know what happened to her despite getting in a car with two others and driving around her body that lay at the front of the Riverway Drive apartment building in 2021.

On Thursday morning, the jury took only two hours before coming back with a guilty verdict.

It is understood that White punched a wall when she exited the courtroom and injured her hand.

In what was supposed to be the murderer’s sentence in the afternoon, Justice David North instead told the court he believed she had sustained “an injury” and was being taken to hospital.

A correctional officer was asked to provide more insight.

“Due to an incident of medical nature, Ms White has been sent for medical attention,” the officer said.

Justice North said they could not continue with the sentence and asked for it to be adjourned to August 12.

Speaking to the Townsville Bulletin after the mention, Kayla’s mum, Michelle Golding said that family and friends that packed the courtroom collectively sighed a sigh of relief when the verdict was handed down.

“Obviously it doesn’t bring Kayla back, but it’s just that part is over,” she said.

“We’re relieved it’s over. We’re relieved (White) got what she deserved and I hope she rots in there, and you can quote me on that.”

When asked how the mother felt about the sentence being adjourned she said, “I’m so used to it, it’s okay”.

“She’s still getting 20 years, I know what she’s getting.”

Ms Golding was supposed to read a victim impact statement to the court during the sentence but said she felt okay about having an opportunity at a later date to confront White.

She was asked how she felt about the news of White’s outburst.

“I think that’s awesome,” the mother said.
