THE mega fight between Jeff Horn and Tim Tszyu will be postponed after Prime Minister Scott Morrison confirmed all mass gatherings attended by more than 500 people – including football games, concerts and conferences — will be cancelled from Monday due to coronavirus.

Tonight’s Cowboys V Broncos clash will still go ahead.

The highly-anticipated fight was announced on Thursday, but during a media conference today, Horn confirmed the fight would be postponed for public safety.

Horn said he would not fight in front of an empty stadium.

“In my opinion it will just be a temporary thing and hopefully it doesn’t last very long,” he said.

“I think what would have to happen, the fight would be postponed, unfortunately, it is great to get it done but sometimes it doesn’t work out this way and we have to follow the rules.

“This wasn’t unknown about so there might be some clauses in the contract that postponement is part of the thing.”

Horn said no matter the outcome he would still train with the intention the fight will go ahead.

“We want to have the fight here and if it is delayed six weeks, two months, three months, we will be ready to go when the time happens.

“I will keep training and keep fit and we will just have to postpone the fight.”

Tourism Minister Kate Jones apologised for the inconvenience of the fight being postponed a day after it had been announced, and said the State Government had been working on the best advice it had at the time.

She said the fight would be held at a later date, but it would “definitely” still be in Townsville. All tickets that have been purchased will be honoured.

In terms of all other scheduled events at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium, Ms Jones said it was a “watch and see” holding pattern at this time.

Promoters for the epic soccer match between English Premier League side Crystal Palace and Brisbane Roar to be held on July 11, TEG Live, confirmed the event would go ahead as planned.

“We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming months and will take the advice of government authorities as the event date approaches,” TEG Live Head of Sport and Lifestyle Murray Hodges.
