MasterChef’s Rhiannon Anderson hosted a fundraiser for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation at the Metropole Hotel.
Rhiannon, known to many as the MasterChef 2023 runner-up, was made National Ambassador for the foundation following the tragic passing of her mother to ovarian cancer.
The fundraiser’s organising team also included Dr Sally Aubrey, Tom Aubrey, Anna Ravizza and John Ravizza. The function raised close to a whopping $55,000.
Guest speakers at the function included Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation member Georgie Herbert and Alisha Thompson, a local doctor and survivor of ovarian cancer.
“In two years we have raised $95,114 for the Foundation to try and find an early detection for ovarian cancer,” Rhiannon said. “We also raised $16,272 when my mother was diagnosed.
“A lot of women don’t realise that a pap smear and cervical screening does not detect ovarian cancer.
“Too many women ignore symptoms like abdominal bloating, reflux or indigestion, weight loss or feeling tired, and by the time they’re diagnosed it’s usually terminal.
“We aim to hold a fundraiser every year so we can get the early detection as we don’t want to see women suffer like my mother.”
