Only the fearless need to apply for the Stay Fearless Reaper Jerky Challenge.

Strand Fitness has laid down the challenge for all hot heads wanting to torture their tastebuds at the gym today by eating beef jerky made using two of the world’s hottest chillies.

The jerky used in the competition has been marinated in carolina reaper and trinidad scorpion chillies. The carolina reaper is regarded as the world’s hottest chilli, and was appointed so in the Guinness World Records in 2017.

Strand Fitness operational manager Donna Hartley said the challenge was definitely not for the faint hearted. Contestants will have to sign a waiver before going through two torturous rounds chewing varying sizes of jerky for at least 20 seconds.

“It’s a bit of fun to break up the monotony of being so serious at the moment,” Ms Hartley said.

She warned there would be little reprieve once contestants swallowed, with the after burn worse than the initial hit of spice. Competition rules state contestants cannot have a drink, wipe their mouth or leave their seat. Vomiting will result in instant disqualification.

The prize for those who survive the challenge is a 12 month membership to the gym.

To enter, message the gym on Facebook.
