TOWNSVILLE families are encouraged to take advantage of the sunny weather while indulging in the rich history of their home town.
It is the last weekend for participants to figure out the clues and solve the riddles of the Townsville Treasure Hunt.
The treasure hunt leads hunters on a journey through the Townsville CBD to famous landmarks including the former post office Victoria Bridge, the Eddie Mabo memorial and the Perfume Gardens.
Holly Thomas and her five-year-old daughter Bella enjoyed a day out in the city together following the clues of the hunt.
Ms Thomas said they both had a fun day learning about their home.
“We really loved being able to get out and about in town even though we have been here for four years, we went to places we haven’t been before,” she said.
“Bella loved the idea that we were trying to figure out things and writing the answers down.”
The winner of the final prize draw will be announced on Friday, December 22.
Acting Mayor Mark Molachino urged youngsters to get involved in the citywide hunt.
“More than 120 entries have been received to date, but it’s not too late to get involved,” he said.
“Townsville has a rich history and the treasure hunt is a great way for our young people to learn more about the city and its past.”
Maps are available at the Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, the Community Information Centre and Flinders Street Library.
More information about the Townsville Treasure Hunt is available from the What’s On Townsville website.
