More than 160 Holden cars ranging from as far back as the 1950s were on show to celebrate its rich Australian history in Townsville on Sunday.

With the famous brand to be no more by the end of 2020, Townsville’s annual All Holden Day paid special tribute to its engineering brilliance.

The first Holden rolled off the assembly line at Fishermen’s Bend, Victoria, in 1948 on November 29.

Muscle Car Events Australia co-ordinator Todd Martin said that the history wouldn’t fade for the rev heads and families alike, who for seven decades, had driven the Aussie icons.

“Everyone loves the brand because of its history,” he said.

“There were a lot of cars on display today that I’d never even seen before.

“For example, there were two cars that turned up today from the late-’60s bought in Townsville, that were exactly the same yet the owners had never seen each other.”

Mr Martin said cars on show averaged at $150,000 and had been restored and maintained to their former glory.

“The older they get, the more they’re worth,” he said.

“The Torana, XU-1, Monaro, Monaro HK, you can restore completely but once you hit the ’90s they change from metal to plastic so they don’t last.

“Parts have already dried up for those.”
