A Townsville woman fed-up with online dating says she turned to using male escorts in a bid to meet a better quality of man.
While Townsville’s population is evenly split between men and women according to the 2021 census, many locals tell a different story when it comes to their dating life.
As more women opt to remain single or take control of their romantic lives, the owner of the male escort agency Her Confidant, Anna Grosman, said society was becoming increasingly open to the idea of paid companionship.
“Whether it’s once a week, once a fortnight, once a month, they organise a booking and they have that human connection, that experience with one of our gentlemen and that’s all they need, no strings attached,” she said.
Townsville-based client, Emily, who in her fifties has revitalised her relationship with her sexuality after a previous violent relationship.
“There’s these sorts of things where if a woman gets an escort then people think what is she doing? What’s wrong with her? But there aren’t many men who haven’t used the service at least once,” she said.
“I actually want a decent guy who can have a decent conversation and decent sex that puts me first, I deserve to be put first and feel like an amazing woman.
“Now I’ve just got this whole new perspective and if I’ve got to pay for it I don’t really care.”
Ms Grosman matched Emily up with Hudson* which she said was a far more rewarding experience than any of her past dates.
“There’s just so many a**holes out there and I don’t want to have to go digging and swipe left, swipe right and meet up with them and they’re an asshole,” Emily said.
“He turned up, he was intelligent, he’s got a really good job and I was like ‘oh my god, he can actually have a normal conversation’ and he was really open and honest about his life and why he was doing it and didn’t hold anything back.”
While some might envy his job, Hudson is quick to highlight that it’s not just about sex but more about providing a deeply emotional and sometimes therapeutic experience to customers.
“A lot of the time there’s a little unpacking of emotions through varying historical events that might have happened in that person’s life, and were almost like a confessional box in a lot of cases where our clients feel comfortable to share anything with us, it’s a very privileged space,” he said.
Ms Grosman said anyone who was tossing up the idea of reaching out to book an experience, should take the leap and reach out.
“It’s like a stepping stone in a lot of cases where they use the services to find out about their bodies, about sex, about what they enjoy and what they don’t enjoy … it’s a space where they can be whatever you want to be,” she said.
