Emergency services have used heavy machinery to control a fire at Townsville Showground.

Firefighters were called to the showground at 7pm yesterday (MON, 7SEP) following reports of a fire near the stables.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman confirmed a “pile of leaves” was alight when a crew arrived shortly after.

She said the fire caused no damage to any building and no one had been injured.

A crew of firefighters used a grader to pull apart the pile of leaves to prevent it from reigniting.
