After years of yoyo dieting, Gunston Lategan has finally arrived at his goal weight with the help of a controversial technique.
Tipping the scales at 123kg eight months ago, Mr Lategan has lost one-third of his body weight, and currently weighs only 83kg.
The scuba instructor lost 40kg through intermittent fasting and said it was “the easiest thing I have ever done”.

“For a month-a-half I stopped eating at 8pm the night before and would have my first meal the following day at 12pm so I was fasting for 16 hours,” he said.
“Then I went to 23 hours of fasting to one hour of eating for three months.”
Within the fasting window, he would only consume water or black coffee. The 44-year-old said he used to eat unhealthy food and drink a lot of alcohol but the special eating pattern had revolutionised his lifestyle.
He said adapting to the new routine was part of a “mindset”. “It doesn’t help not eating for 20 hours and then have a pizza so you need to be mindful of what you put in the body after that fasting,” he said. “I am eating healthier now and I love vegies and salads and I swear by the air fryer. I still eat the occasional pizza but now twice a month compared to four times a week.”
