It WASN’T love at first sight for Roz Tucker but her marriage to Ross Tucker was a union destined to last half a century.
The couple will mark a significant milestone today, celebrating their gold wedding anniversary with their family and friends at The Ville Resort-Casino.
Ross and Roz Tucker first met at a basketball game in 1966 and were engaged in 1967 after Ross proposed to his wife in bed while she was sick with tonsillitis.
Roz said their relationship slowly developed over time.
“It took a while, it wasn’t love at first sight but the way he was, we did things together then we decided to spend the rest of our lives together,” she said.
They were married on March 14, 1970 and moved to Townsville from Victoria in 1988.
Roz, 74, and Ross, 74, put down roots in Cranbrook with their daughter Michelle and son Steve who both attended Kirwan State High School.
“We visit Townsville a couple of times a year to see our family,” said Ross.
He said the secret to their marriage was their love for fishing and being honest.
“We still fish together.”
