A health food cafe is serving up nutritious and delicious meals in its “hidden nook”.

Located next to Townsville CrossFit in Condon, Tribe Cafe by The Feel Good Foodie was established to create a space for CrossFitters and anyone wanting a healthy bite to eat.

Owner Sally Vujica said having a completely gluten-free menu prevented any potential cross contamination and allowed her to cater to a growing market, while also challenging her to get creative with recipes.

“I love feeding people good healthy food and a lot of people think it’s rabbit food, but it’s not,” she said.

“I like surprising people with the amount of flavour you can get into a healthy meal and that’s probably what excites me the most.”

Ms Vujica said she hoped the cafe – with its play area – would become a drawcard for parents’ groups and families.

“We wanted a natural and welcoming feeling for all those that come here, because there’s not a lot of cafes in this area so it’s sort of a bit of a hidden nook,” she said.

“We have a little play area and because we have so many families that come here with CrossFit kids, it’s why we’re open so late in the afternoons.”

Ms Vujica also operates a food truck which was put back on the road recently after being flooded last year.

“We’d just launched our take-home meals when the floods hit, so that just coincided with having a cafe, she said.
