Kaitey Mcnaught fights for her life after crash

FRIENDS of Charters Towers teenager Kaitey Mcnaught, who was critically injured in a crash over the weekend, hope she pulls through.
The high school student was a passenger in a car that allegedly blitzed through a police RBT on Sunday morning, before crashing into trees on a Charters Towers street.
Ms Mcnaught, 18, was flown to Townsville University Hospital with significant head injuries, in a critical condition, where she remains.
The impact of the crash was so severe the windscreen of the four-wheel-drive utility popped from its casing and smashed.
As of Monday night, no charges had been laid against the 17-year-old driver of the car.
Friends of Ms Mcnaught, who goes to Blackheath and Thornburgh College took to social media to pass on their wishes.
“Thoughts and prayers are with you Kaitey,” Neeve Gallagher wrote.
Thomas Dello Laco wrote, “we’ve lost too many people this year and you’re not joining them.
“Your future is too bright and you waited for graduation for way too long to not fulfil all the plans and goals you set. You’re going to make it baby girl.”
Katey Louden wrote that her friend was a “beautiful soul” and she was praying for Kaitey.
Adrena Gardiner wrote words of encouragement to Kaitey, saying “you can do this.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash and will be overseen by the Ethical Standards Command.
It’s understood police officers were standing next to a parked police vehicle on Gill Street about 2.30am on Sunday when they signalled for the Toyota LandCruiser ute to stop for a roadside breath test.
The 17-year-old male driver of the LandCruiser allegedly evaded police and continued to travel out of police sight before being discovered a short time later crashed into matured palm trees.
A Townsville University Hospital spokeswoman confirmed Kaitey remained in critical but stable condition.
The extent of her head injuries is unclear.
The 17-year old driver from Julia Creek was alcohol tested on scene before he was taken back to the station for further testing and questioning. The teenager was uninjured as a result of the crash. A police spokeswoman confirmed the driver has not been charged at this time.
