One of Flinders Street’s most iconic venues will be doubling up its New Year’s Eve celebrations, celebrating its 22nd birthday at the same time.

ONE of Flinders St’s most famous venues will be doubling up its New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Mad Cow Tavern will ring in the new Year by celebrating its 22nd anniversary.
Jasmine Zeller, Mad Cow’s marketing and events manager, said the venue had a massive party planned and it would be open until daybreak.
“We’ve got party games, obviously with a Mad Cow twist. We will also have jelly shots, party bags and polaroid photos,” she said.
“There’s no lockout. We’ve got an extended licence, so we will be open until 5am.”
The Mad Cow saloon-styled bar opened its doors in 1997 and soon became a cult favourite in the city’s night-life scene.
It has since become a well known haunt for Cowboys’ stars and other visiting NRL players, who can often be seen enjoying a drink.
Cowboys’ veteran Gavin Cooper treated the Mad Cow as a rite of passage and said his stints with Gold Coast and Penrith had matured him.
“(Moving) helped me … grow up a little bit because if I was in Townsville (the whole time), I’d probably still be … at the Mad Cow partying every third night.”
Ms Zeller said the new decade would be brought in with a special mix by the venue’s resident DJs and there would also be a cake.
Doors open from 8pm.
