Fishing has provided the perfect escape from the coronavirus “madness” for Kirwan teen Morgan Hanson.
The keen angler set out at the weekend, hooking into some grunter off the fishing jetty along The Strand.
The 14-year-old believed picking up a fishing rod was the best way of dealing with the negativity of late, with coronavirus threatening to cost jobs and forcing the city into a near lockout.
“I just wanted to escape the rubbish. There’s no need to worry about it,” he said.
Even though the fish he caught were undersized and released, the teen said there was no need to worry on the food front.
“There’s no need to stock up on food,” he said.

Morgan said he would continue fishing with mates or venture out on his own.
“I go fishing every weekend, just to escape and get some fresh air,” he said.
“I’m pretty successful when fishing, but it’s all about enjoying yourself.”
Morgan said he started fishing when he was three, managing to catch a few fish when on a boat with his dad.
Ever since then he has been hooked on the pastime that so many North Queenslanders are engrossed in.
