A family home in a Townsville suburb has been damaged in a fire.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey house at the corner of Leopold and Baldwin Streets, Aitkenvale at 9.14am.

It was initially feared two people were inside the burning home, but firefighting crews ensured it was clear.

“All persons have been accounted for which is good news,” a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman.

The spokesman confirmed a “small fire” inside the property was extinguished shortly after crews arrived.

He said the fire did not completely destroy the home as firefighters contained it to a room.

The house was evacuated with occupants seen talking to emergency services on the road opposite.

No patients required treatment from paramedics as a result of the fire.

The fire follows another on a street nearby just days before.

On Friday firefighters rushed to a burning house on Pope St, Aitkenvale, where a man was treated for smoke inhalation.
