A FILM directed by a former Townsville filmmaker has got a special shout out from an international music star.
American songstress Kelly Clarkson sung praises for Netflix original film Feel the Beat, directed by former Heatley High student Elissa Down.
“If ya’ll are looking for a cute film to watch with your kiddos then definitely watch Feel the Beat on Netflix. Shout out to Sofia Carson for being such an incredible talent,” Clarkson tweeted.
Down, an award-winning director, now lives in the US. She was rapt by the shout out from the Since U Been Gone singer.

“I have to admit — a little excited about this tweet,” Down said.
Feel the Beat, a family dance movie starring Carson, focuses on a self-centred dancer who reluctantly returns home after blowing a Broadway audition to coach a squad of young misfits for a big competition. It is Down’s third film.
Down won an International Film Festival award for her debut feature The Black Balloon, released in 2008. The film drew on her own experiences of growing up in an army family with two autistic brothers, and is about fitting in, discovering love and accepting your family.
“Many elements in the film really did happen to us,” Down told the Townsville Bulletin at the time of the release.
