New details have been revealed about a horrific crash that claimed the lives of a man and woman in their 30s on a notorious stretch of the Bruce Highway near Cardwell.
The Forensic Crash Unit has been deployed to investigate the harrowing single-vehicle incident that unfolded on the Bruce Highway at Damper Creek, situated between Ingham and Cardwell, early Tuesday morning.
Preliminary reports suggest that the grim events transpired sometime overnight when a Holden Commodore, travelling north towards Cardwell, veered off the road and overturned near the tree line.
The scene of the wreckage, discovered on Tuesday morning, prompted an immediate response from emergency services, who arrived at the site around 6.15am.
Upon arrival, the male driver and female passenger, both aged in their 30s, were declared deceased.
The vehicle likely struck trees lining the verge of the highway after flipping.
The wreckage of the Holden Commodore was covered by tarpaulins as police investigators assessed the scene on Tuesday.
Witnesses are urged to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that may assist in shedding light on the events leading up to the crash.
