Cowboys co-captain Chad Towsend adds to young family as wife Marissa announces fourth child

NQ Cowboys co-captain Chad Townsend has plenty of reason to celebrate ahead of this weekend’s game. Congratulations to the Townsend family!

Fresh off a blistering performance that silenced his doubters, North Queensland Cowboys co-captain Chad Townsend has revealed a much bigger reason to cheer.

The 31-year-old halfback took to social media to announce he and wife Marissa are expecting a fourth child.

The star couple have called Townsville home since Townsend made the move to the Cowboys following a shock mid-year defection from the Cronulla Sharks.

Townsend and Marissa already have three children, daughters Myra and Mia and son Cairo.

Wife Marissa was quick to celebrate the announcement on social media, taking to Instagram to announce an expected due date.

“Our one, two and three year old have some very exciting news … baby number four, due September,” Mrs Townsend said.

The Cowboys leader could barely hold back his excitement in a similar post.

“We’re on again! Baby number 4 joining the party this September! We can’t wait!”

The proficient kicker and on-field leader’s young family was one of the key reasons he signed with the NQ Cowboys on a lucrative three-year deal believed to be worth more than $2 million.

Townsend, who won a premiership with the Cronulla Sharks in 2016, was believed by many to have seen out his best years before leaving the shire.

Cowboys coach Todd Payten inflamed the media commentary ahead of the hotly anticipated XXXX derby, after revealing that he could have signed Broncos rival Adam Reynolds, but chose to take on Townsend as the man to lead along with Jason Taumalolo.

Townsend put his critics on notice across an 80-minute 38 – 12 drubbing that saw Reynolds fail to fire in his debut for the Brisbane side.
