Creating a home away from home is the best approach to early childhood, according to Townsville’s best educator.
Alysha McNeill of Coolibah Kids Family Day Care in Kirwan was voted the best by parents in the Townsville Bulletin’s ‘Best of 2020’ poll last week.
With more than 12 years experience, Ms McNeill has operated Coolibah for seven years. She said operating from her home created loving relationships between herself, the young children she teaches and their families.
“I love the relationships I am able to form with both the children and their families; they really are an extension of my family. Each child is beautifully unique and being part of their growth and development is truly special,” she said.
Ms McNeill is passionate about creating a natural, nurturing and flexible learning environment.
“Studies show that play and learning is so important in the early years and vital to the development of little minds, I love encouraging play based learning and incorporating this throughout my program, routine and environments,” she said.
Her high level of care helped her win the regional 2017 and 2019 excellence in Family Day Care Awards.
She said she was “humbled and honoured” to have been voted Townsville’s best educator by local parents.
