A drug dealing dad has claimed he was selling marijuana because the medicinal version was too expensive.
Cody Andrew Low appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday after a traffic stop by police exposed his drug supply offences.
Police prosecutor Sam Stewart said on July 11 last year the 30-year-old father was sitting in the front of a car that was pulled over, and the police had “reasonable suspicious” that he was in possession of drugs.
The court was told the father was dealt with for possession last year in court.
Police also took the man’s phone where they found he had sold marijuana to three different people over six weeks on 18 occasions with the amounts ranging from 3g to 14g each time.
“To his credit he made admissions immediately when the phone was seized,” Mr Stewart said.
“Throughout the process he was compliant and honest with police and says he no longer supplies.”
The court was told Low had previously been sentenced to a period of probation and was fined for drug offending.
“He has a history of drugs, not a history that has rendered him incarcerated at this stage,” the prosecutor said.
Defence lawyer Kerri Patterson said her client had been prescribed medicinal cannabis to manage anxiety and sold to friends who also had the prescription for it.
It was said he started selling and illegally buying it himself because it was too expensive and that after his court proceedings he was planning to move back to NSW to live with family.
Low pleaded guilty to 18 counts of supplying drugs and one count of possessing anything used in commission of a crime.
He was sentenced to nine months jail wholly suspended for 18 months.
